Summer Bursary 2021

Solent has been awarded extra funding to share with students before 31 July 2021

Solent University has been awarded £160,382 by the Office for Students to share with students before 31 July 2021. We are therefore opening applications for a Summer Bursary from Monday 17 May to Friday 11 June. The Summer Bursary is intended to give financial support to students for rent and other costs across the summer months, especially if you are unable to work through ill-health, limited job opportunities or family commitments.

Home students

Requirements

  • To apply for a Summer Bursary, all you need to do is supply us with a detailed personal statement to explain what your situation will be for the next 3 months and why you are applying for the bursary. The panel will use this statement to base their judgement on, so please give us as much detail as possible
  • To support your statement, you must also upload evidence of income and expenditure including SFE maintenance loan, state benefits, pay slips, 3 months recent bank statements, rental agreement and tuition fee payment plan (if applicable)
  • If you have not already registered your bank account details or they have changed please can you register them on our secure university student record system 

Eligibility

  • Summer bursaries are open all undergraduate and postgraduate students (both full and part-time), including QAHE students and apprentices, although you must be studying a course at Level 4 or above or be on a Foundation year leading to an undergraduate degree
  • Home students will be asked to supply a copy of their SFE Maintenance Loan (if applicable)

The process

  • All applications will be considered after Friday 11 June and you will be notified about the outcome of your application after Monday 12 July. Payments are expected to be made on Friday 23 July. If you are suffering from extreme financial hardship and need support before this date, please apply for a Support Grant - you can find more details on the portal or by emailing student.funding@solent.ac.uk
  • Summer Bursaries will be awarded up to £500, dependent on the number of successful applications
  • Priority will be given to students who have not received any additional funding already in the academic year 2020/21
  • The closing date may be subject to change at short notice dependent on the number of applications received

  • If you have not already registered your bank account details or they have changed please can you register them on our secure university student record system

  • EU and International students are eligible to apply, however, if you are self-funding, you must be up-to-date on your tuition fee payments or in discussion with our income team
