Join us for an exciting talk from Don John
We are delighted to welcome Don John, Founder of Black History Month South as he presents a talk as part of the “A Study in Colourism” exhibition supported by Arts Council England, which is currently showing in The Spark Building.
With 40 years of experience in the Race and Diversity field, Don will discuss a history of Colourism/Shadism - a prejudice in which Black or Brown people with darker skin experience disadvantages compared with those with a lighter complexion, which prompted the exhibition. Guests will also hear from renowned local live music and documentary photographer Nosa Malcom, Creative Consultant Anthony Smith, and two of the models who participated in the Colourism exhibition Abdoulie Sanneh and Helena Boyce who will share their perspectives on light and dark skin.
This talk is free to attend and open to staff and students at Southampton Solent University.
