Financial safety this autumn

Stay financially safe this autumn with these helpful tips and tools.

We want our staff and students to feel empowered when it comes to financial safety.

As we enter a busy period of spending - Black Friday is around the corner and the festive season isn't far away - we're sharing advice to keep you financially alert.

Financial safety with Barclays

On Wednesday 27 November, you're invited to attend an event with Barclays to meet our partners in the city and get up-to-date advice on how to protect yourself against scams and fraud.

Look out for...

Action Fraud has launched a campaign to increase financial safety for students. As part of this, they have helpfully outlined the types of scams often targeted at students, which you can take a look at here.

Parking fraud

We've been advised that some car parks are reporting fake QR codes on parking machines. This is where a QR code will have been placed over original information on a machine, linking users to a fake payment platform.

We are pleased to report there has been no activity like this on campus car parks, but please do stay vigilant when you are out and about.

Rental fraud

We're on hand to provide support and guidance when it comes to looking for student housing. Fraudsters sometimes target students looking for new accommodation, usually asking you to pay fees without seeing a property.

To support you with your housing journey, and ensure you're confident about the properties you're considering, we are hosting a Housing Fair with Solent Students' Union.

Online scams

If you're shopping or buying tickets for events online, stick to websites you are familiar with. Scammers can replicate websites and promote fake tickets; check the URL to ensure it's one you recognise and if you are at all concerned, don't enter any personal details.
