NSS results 2022

We'd like to share the results of this year's National Student Survey (NSS) with you

7th July 2022

The NSS results were released yesterday, Wednesday 6 July, and show that results are up across the board.

We are pleased to see that students are satisfied with the overall quality of their education at Solent, as Overall our Satisfaction has increased to 72.5%, with scores for Teaching, Academic Support and Student Voice showing a similar rise.

Solent is ahead of both sector and benchmark for 6 of the 9 key measures, although still behind in Overall Satisfaction, Learning Opportunities, and Organisation and Management. Our biggest achievement is a rise of 12% on last year for Learning and Resources, now at 81.4%. This reflects the welcome return of students to campus following the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as hard work and dedication from our learning and teaching teams.

Our Vice-Chancellor, Professor Karen Stanton says, “These results show that we are on the right track, but there is still much to do. Here at Solent, we put our students at the heart of all that we do, and this valuable feedback will continue to help inform our teaching, support and the student experience.”

This year’s NSS was open to our final-year students from Thursday 6 January – Saturday 30 April 2022, and asked students a range of questions related to their academic experience, including the teaching on their course, assessment and feedback, and how well courses were organised.

We are pleased that 74% of our eligible students completed the NSS this year.

Colleagues, please remember to explore the new NSS Insights Dashboard on Tableau, which holds four years of NSS data, with 2022 data being added on Monday 11 July.

The Office for Students (OfS) is currently reviewing the NSS. Following the UK-wide consultation this summer, any agreed changes will be implemented ahead of the 2023 survey.
