As part of our Strategy 2025 and the aim for our students to be 'Work Ready, World Ready, Future Ready', we recognised that bringing together our student services in one physical place was an important step in supporting our students.
We are now excited to announce the opening of the first phase of our new 'Student Village' on level one of the John Millais (JM) building.
This new zone incorporates the following services, adjacent to the existing Students' Union space:
Solent Creatives
Solent's student-powered freelancing agency. Pop in to find out about paid freelancing opportunities, with lots of support from the team to help get you started.
You don't need equipment - the team have all sorts of kit available and a suite of Macs that you can use. A great way to learn the skills of a freelancer, get paid and boost your portfolio!

The Workshop
A collaboration and breakout space with kitchenette facilities (including a microwave) that students can use at any time. Please note that there may be sessions running in this space to support guided learning, depending on the day / time – all sessions will be advertised on the portal events calendar.

Solent Futures
Our dedicated careers team will be available between 12.30-3.30pm, Monday-Friday. No need to book an appointment, just drop in! Solent Futures offer employability and enterprise advice and support to students and graduates, to help you achieve your ambitions. Talk to the team to find out about jobs, starting a business, CVs, your LinkedIn profile and more!

Sensory Room
A calm and quiet space for students to use. This might be helpful if you are feeling overwhelmed, stressed or experiencing sensory overload. There are different types of seating, a bubble tube, lamps, blinds and blankets for you to utilise.
You can find the Sensory Room in JM110.
Multi-faith Room
A safe space for employees and students to meditate, pray or rest. Washing facilities are located opposite the room.
