Unveiling our coat of arms

Starting a week of celebrations by unveiling our new coat of arms

17th August 2020

Ahead of a week of celebrations for our class of 2020 receiving their results, today we have launched our university’s coat of arms and new motto.

Granted by letters patent from the Garter Principal King of Arms, the coat of arms combines the University's long history and tradition with contemporary symbols to reflect its modern standing. It celebrates the University's long history from our origins as a School of Art in 1856. Watch this video for a full explanation:

Our coat of arms is used for our main ceremonial events, such as graduation, official university communications, as a focal point for our alumni and a reminder to take pride over our traditions and heritage.

We have now launched a new range of alumni clothing featuring the coat of arms. Further merchandise including glass and metal gifts will be launched in the coming weeks.
