Celebrate a decade of running excellence
In 2025, the ABP Southampton Marathon marks 10 incredible years of running across Southampton. This year also celebrates 20 years of Southampton Solent University, making it the perfect moment to launch an event designed to inspire, educate, and connect runners of all abilities. SO:RUN 2025 is a FREE interactive evening packed with expert-led workshops, guest talks, and opportunities to connect with local health and wellness organisations. Whether you’re preparing for your first marathon or aiming for a personal best, this event is tailored to help you succeed.
Chris Rees: What to Expect on Race Day
Chris is your Event Day expert and will tell you everything you will need to know to be fully prepared for your ABP Marathon experience – from making sure you leave the house with the right kit, and what to expect on the course and after you cross the finish line.
Amy King & James Bryant: A Recipe for Success
Amy and James are your nutrition and hydration experts and will be sharing what foods to consume, and what to avoid in the final weeks leading up to and during race day. They will also discuss hydration and how to create your own sports drink.
How to manage your running nerves and stress for the big day with Dr Francesca Gwynne
This workshop will look at tackling your stress, anxiety, panic, and tension in the pre-race hours and days before an important running event to help increase personal performance and enjoyment.
An introduction to movement skills to improve performance and reduce injury with Dr Conor Power
During this informative session you will be given both theoretical and practical guidance to help reduce personal injury risks through improving your understanding of movement quality and how to measure and record these variables.
The importance of training strategies on performance with Dr Lee Bridgeman
This workshop will share knowledge on how elite marathon runners train and prepare, and how this information can be used to inform your own personal training.
Resistance training for improved running performance and economy with Adam Lewis
When it comes to distance runners, developing strength is normally at the bottom of the list of training priorities. This session will explain the performance benefits from adding simple strength and plyometric exercises into your weekly workouts and help you to find practical solutions that work for you.
How to prevent and treat running injuries with Tom Gray
In this workshop we will cover a breakdown of the most common running related injuries and measures that can be taken to mitigate their onset and support their recovery. We will explore a 'bucket' analogy to discuss how load can be managed and tolerance increased. This session will also include a practical component and a free running home exercise programme!
