Block teaching or standard delivery?

7 October 2026

At Solent, some courses are now delivered through block teaching as part of Solent Future Learning (SFL), while others continue with standard delivery.

Most new students on Level 3 and Level 4 courses will be studying through the block model, although there are some exceptions depending on the course. If you're unsure which model applies to you, please check with your course team.

Block teaching: Study one module at a time in a seven week block (six weeks of teaching and one assessment week).

Standard delivery: Study several modules at the same time across a semester.

The main difference is how your learning is organised. Both approaches provide the same academic support, access to resources and opportunities to develop skills for your future career.

If you are studying on block delivery, a different set of academic regulations (Scheme A) will apply to you. You can find more information in the links below and your student handbook.

As block teaching continues to be introduced across the University, you may notice some changes to your timetable or how your learning is scheduled. We'll keep you informed of any updates that affect your course.
