It's Hate Crime Awareness Week next week
9 October 2025
Monday 13 - Friday 17 October 2025 is Hate Crime Awareness Week at Solent
This October, Southampton Solent University is joining communities across the UK to mark National Hate Crime Awareness Week.
Hate crime is any criminal act motivated by hostility or prejudice based on someone’s race, religion, sexual orientation, disability, or gender identity. Sadly, it’s something many people experience - but together we can stand up against it.
Hate crime doesn’t just affect individuals - it impacts whole communities, spreading fear and division. By learning how to recognise it and how to respond, we can create a safer, more inclusive campus for everyone. Speaking up makes a real difference. Every report helps stop patterns of harm and supports those affected.
What’s happening on campus?
On Tuesday 14 October from 11am-2pm, the Student Hub, Safeguarding team, the Community Engagement Advisor with Hampshire Police and officers from the neighbourhood team, will be on campus to help raise awareness.
There will be an information stall in the Spark atrium with resources on reporting, support services, and your rights.
There will also be an opportunity to win one of two £10 Sodexo vouchers by participating in a short survey.
Need support?
If you’ve experienced or witnessed hate crime:
- Report it through the Southampton Solent University Report + Support platform.
- Contact the Student Hub for confidential advice or to make a report through their third-party hate crime reporting centre.
- In an emergency, always call 999.
