Help shape the future of sustainable travel at Southampton Solent University

We’ve officially opened a brand-new assistive technology area on floor two of the library.
This space is bigger and better than the old room and sits right next to other computer facilities and group study zones - perfect for staying connected while you work.
Movable monitors on long arms (great for laptops and desktops), large-format keyboards, and even a visualiser to magnify documents for visually impaired users have been installed. Plus, there’s a mix of adjustable desks for wheelchair users and posture-friendly seating to suit different needs.
But it’s not just about tech - the space looks amazing too. The walls have been transformed thanks to fine art student FaeZanna Holman, who teamed up with the Library, Education Office, and BA Fine Art. Funding from the Solent Education Innovation Project helped cover materials and protective gear for the stunning mural.
Working with Dr Atsuhide Ito from BA Fine Art, the Library invited design proposals to make the area feel welcoming and inspiring. FaeZanna’s vibrant Koi carp design was chosen for its calming vibe, bold colours and creative use of walls and columns. She also brought a personal understanding of the challenges faced by students with disabilities, which makes this project even more meaningful.
Want to see it for yourself? Drop by floor two of the library during opening hours and check out this amazing new space!
