As part of their Commercial Practice module, Level 5 Graphic Design students delivered a live brief set by Emma Birch, Art Director at Cavendish.
Level 5 Graphic Design students have been working on a live brief in Semester 2 set by Emma Birch, Art Director at Cavendish as part of their Commercial Practice module.
Emma (an alumna and industry friend of the BA Graphic Design course) came in to give a talk on her career journey and set the brief – a branding project for a fictional wind farm and energy centre. The brief was written to reflect a real life project undertaken by Cavendish.
The students were initially asked to research the subject area and audience as well as generate three different proposed solutions to the brief. Emma came back into the studio for a midway informal chat with them to help them decide which idea to take forward and the students then presented their final work formally to Emma two weeks later.
This was an excellent opportunity for the students to get real world experience - they learnt how an agency would tackle a brief, different ways to generate and pitch their ideas and what was important during the presentation process.
Ellie Kilburn, lecturer on Graphic Design and module leader said “Emma is such a positive force to have in the studio, she has supported the students and generously shared her industry knowledge and time to work on this project with us. The students have gained real world experience that will be invaluable going into Level 6”.
