Sport at Solent Festival returns for year two

7 April 2026

Southampton Solent University will host the second annual Sport at Solent Festival later this month, bringing a week of competitive sport to venues across the city.

Taking place from 15–22 April, the festival will showcase a wide range of sports including football, rugby and netball, with fixtures held at Test Park, the University’s state‑of‑the‑art Sports Complex on East Park Terrace, and Wellington Sports Ground.

The event will give Solent students the opportunity to compete against peers from the University of Southampton, the University of Winchester and the University of Portsmouth, reinforcing friendly inter‑university rivalry while celebrating student sport.

Organised by Solent’s School of Health and Sport, the festival places a strong emphasis on participation and inclusion, ensuring students of all abilities can enjoy a positive and supportive sporting atmosphere as the academic year draws to a close.

As well as headline fixtures, students will compete across a packed programme that includes American football, badminton, tennis, hockey and futsal, with strong attendance expected throughout the week.

Deputy Dean of Solent’s School of Health and Sport, Dominic Cunliffe, said:

“The Sport at Solent Festival is about much more than competition. It’s an opportunity to bring students together, celebrate participation and create an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcomed, whether they’re representing a team or supporting from the sidelines. With exams approaching, it’s also a great way for students to stay active and enjoy a real sense of community.”

The Sport at Solent Festival highlights the University’s ongoing commitment to student wellbeing, physical activity and inclusive sporting opportunities, while strengthening links with partner institutions across the region.
