The ABP Southampton Marathon is turning 10, and we will be there to help celebrate

In 2025, the ABP Southampton Marathon celebrates its tenth anniversary and Southampton Solent is proud to once again be actively involved in the city’s biggest community running event which promotes physical fitness and the importance of wellbeing.

Since its inception in 2015, Solent has been involved in providing students, staff and alumni various opportunities to gain valuable experiences across the event. These have included:

  • Taking on the challenge of completing the half and full marathons fundraising for our Local Student Bursary Scheme.
  • Working alongside Rees Leisure’s event team supporting pre, post and race day logistics.
  • Entertaining crowds with live music performances.
  • Volunteering on Solent’s dedicated cheer point.
  • Delivering and sharing expertise through ‘Meet the Experts’ and our new SO RUN public engagement events.
  • Designing event materials and race t-shirts.
  • Filming and live streaming of the various courses.

With just a week to go until the Marathon on Sunday 6 April 2025, students currently studying on BSc Sport and Exercise Therapy at Solent will once again be enhancing the race day experience for hundreds of runners, providing free massages and therapy sessions across the duration of the event. This is the tenth year that students and staff will be on hand offering massages to tired runners to help speed recovery, reduce muscle soreness and facilitate injury healing.

If you are running and would like to book a pre-run massage, you can reserve your slot here. All other massages throughout the event will be freely open to all.

This event is another example of how Southampton Solent University as a civic university is supporting Public Engagement.

Please remember there are local road closures across the city throughout the day. Visit the ABP Southampton Marathon’s website for further details.

Good luck to everyone who is taking part this year!
