Earlier this year, the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) announced a MenB vaccination programme, which launched in summer 2026. The programme is open to all year 13 students and anyone under the age of 25 who is starting university this year.
The MenB vaccination protects against disease caused by meningococcal group B (MenB) bacteria. These bacteria can lead to severe and life-threatening conditions, specifically meningitis and septicaemia.
New students were offered the vaccination as part of Solent’s Welcome Week programme. Returning students are unfortunately not eligible for the DHSC programme but can still get the vaccination for a fee of £95.
Two doses are essential for full protection so if you had your first dose during Welcome Week, please ensure you return to the clinic for your second dose.
If you're a first year student and missed out during Welcome Week, you can still get your first dose now and return for your second dose in four weeks' time.
In addition to the MenB vaccination, the clinic is now also offering flu vaccinations for a fee of £20, unless you are exempt under normal NHS guidelines.
You can visit the clinic every Wednesday this term between 10am - 6pm in the Spark:
The clinic welcomes walk-ins or you can book your slot via the NHS booking system >
Please note, dates only show on the booking system one week in advance.
Please visit the Student Hub or email student.hub@solent.ac.uk if you have any queries.
