Held every year the Guildford Game Festival celebrates the long and distinguished history of the Guildford game development community; the dev studios, the developers and the games.
For the second year, fifty students from the Animation, CGI/ VFX, Game Art, Game Design and Programming courses at Solent joined a packed-out audience at the G-Live venue in Guildford.
Students heard from industry luminaries such as Peter Molyneux (Bullfrog Games, Lionhead Studios and 22 Cans), Mark Healey and Kareem Ettouney (Lionhead and Media Molecule).
There were also opportunities to talk with local developers Stella Entertainment, Supermassive Games and EA Criterion, and preview soon to be released titles from Guildford developers such as King of Meat (Glowmade) and Two Point Museum (Two Point Studios) as well as indie titles in development.
Third year (Game Art) student Corey Brown said: "it was great to see all the amazing work from the studios at Guildford Games Festival, and was a great opportunity to meet lots of interesting people from the artists at DPS who had lots of great information about ‘getting the job’ all the way to the staff of Wired2fire who knew all there is about the hardware we use in the gaming industry."
Drew Cattanach Senior Lecturer on the Game Art course said: "the Guildford Game Festival is a high point in the Solent Game Dev calendar. The festival offers our students an opportunity to rub shoulders with industry, immerse themselves in the UK game development community and bring some of that passion back to their respective courses."
Solent Game Dev will be going back in 2026.
