Solent Enterprise

Got a business idea? Thinking about freelancing or working for yourself?

Solent Enterprise is here to help you explore your ideas, build your skills and take the next steps towards starting a business or freelance career.

Whether you’ve just had the beginnings of a business idea, want to explore freelancing, or are already developing a venture, you can access one-to-one support, practical workshops and funding opportunities* to help you move forward.

Not sure where to start? That’s absolutely fine. You don’t need a finished business plan or all the answers to get involved.

Contact the Solent Enterprise team for an informal chat: enterprise@solent.ac.uk or drop in and see us in JM109, The Spark (in Solent Creatives).

One-to-one business support

Got a business idea you’d like help developing? Already running a business or freelancing and need some advice about your next steps?

Book a one-to-one guidance session with our independent business adviser to talk through your idea, challenges and what you could do next.

Appointments are available virtually and on campus on Wednesdays.

Email enterprise@solent.ac.uk to book.

Funding to help grow your business idea or freelance career

Got a business idea or want to start freelancing, but need some financial support to get things moving?

Through Solent Enterprise, current students and recent graduates (within the past year) may have the opportunity to access grant funding* alongside workshops and support to help develop their business or freelance plans.

Because this is grant funding, you won’t need to repay it.

*Subject to T&Cs

Information for international students

If you’re studying on a Student visa, you’re welcome to take part in our workshops and events, but UK visa conditions mean you cannot be self-employed or run a business in the UK while on that visa.

This also means you cannot set up a company, hold 10% or more of the shares in a company, or take on a role such as a company director in the UK.

Students on a Student visa are therefore not eligible to apply for business funding or prizes, but you can still get involved in activities that help you explore enterprise and develop your skills.

Please email enterprise@solent.ac.uk if you have any questions about what support you can access.
