Whether you want to learn new things, join a group or get involved with the Students' Union- there is something for everyone at Solent.
Solent Student Union Elections: The SU elections give you the opportunity to get your voice heard, either by standing for election yourself, or by voting for the candidates you most want to represent you. This is a great opportunity for you to get professional experience, sit on the Board of Governors, take on legal and financial responsibilities and work closely with senior leaders at a large institution.
Elections are now underway and voting closes on Friday 28 February. Contact the Students’ Union to learn more.
BRIT Challenge 2025: The BRIT challenge launched at Solent on 20 January and there are a range of events and activities on offer aimed at supporting mental health. Learn more here.
SU President International Series: Grab your tickets to the SU President's anime movie screening of Belle (2021)! Trust us, you don't want miss one of the most wholesome events of January 2025! Dive into this visually stunning modern reimagining of Beauty and the Beast, where a shy high schooler discovers her voice in a dazzling virtual world called "U." Thursday 30 January at 6pm at The Spark, Jane Austen Theatre.

Give it a Go with the Students Union: The new year is all about learning new things and growing as a person. The SU have got a 2-week jam-packed list of events for you, with a wide range of sessions for you to get involved with – all for FREE! There’s something for everyone including sports sessions, arts & crafts, as well as off-site visits to places like Manor Farm, Alpine Snowsports and Boulder Shack. Simply Social Neurodiversity Group Monthly meet-up: Simply Social is a social group for students who identify / are diagnosed as neurodiverse. Meet other students, chat, play board games, and any other activities students wish to do. The group is student-led so you can bring along any ideas you have too! The group meets in the JM108 on the first Thursday of each month at 12:00pm. No need to book; just turn up.
Solent Careers Fair: Join our Careers Event, Spring Forward to the Future on Thursday 6 February. There’s a Panel Discussion from 10am to 11am at the Palmerston Lecture Theatre, followed by Employer Networking in The Spark Atrium from 11am to 2pm. Learn more here:
Mental Health and Wellbeing Café: Join us for some quiet and calm time to chat or be with others (students and staff), enjoying some small craft activities, including jigsaws, mindful colouring, making lavender bags amongst others. All Welcome, and refreshments and activities are free. The next meeting is on Thursday 13 Feb at 12pm in JM108.
Students’ Union Refreshers Fair: 18 February 10am – 3pm in The Spark. You don't want to miss the SU Refreshers Fair – your chance to discover the coolest societies, grab freebies, and talk to a variety of University service teams.
This is a mini version of the SU Freshers Fair where we have loads of SU societies and university services/teams represented so students can pop down and have a chat/sign up/register if they want to or can just hang around for good vibes + we usually have different brands and organisations coming in as external vendors to interact with students/ give out freebies and drinks.
Spirituality and Reflection drop-ins: A faith advisor is usually present in the Workshop on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11am-12pm for students to come and have a cuppa. Learn more :
Reclaim the Night: Friday 7 March: Solent Students’ Union are ‘reclaiming the night’ in the run up to this year’s International Women’s Day, by raising awareness of gender-based violence and night-time safety in Southampton. The event, which involves an evening march, is aimed at empowering those who may feel vulnerable or scared when walking though the parks in Southampton city centre, especially during the night.
The event kicks off with a DJ set in The Spark (5-7pm) and the March will start at 7pm. The March will begin at The Spark entrance at Solent University and end in Hoglands Park. The route will follow pavements through the parks, and will last approximately one hour.
Graduation Events and Summer Balls: The Social Sciences and Nursing Leaver’s Ball in on Friday 23 May. Tickets are £30 and include a 3-course meal, live music and an award ceremony. You can book your ticket via the Online Shop.
