Additional opening of University buildings

Requests for the additional opening of University buildings outside the published standard hours should be made in advance to the facilities manager at facilities@solent.ac.uk, providing full details and reasonable notice (ten working days).

Such requests will only be granted if resources are available and compliance issues can be fulfilled. A standard hourly charge will apply.

Locking up process

Locking up is a lengthy and complicated process that follows an approved routine. The locking up process has to ensure that security of the building is established quickly, while at the same time maintaining emergency escape routes for people vacating the building.

After 9pm, if the facilities assistants discover people working, they will courteously remind and advise them that the University will be closing in the next hour and request the premises be vacated at their earliest convenience.

Please co-operate fully with facilities assistants during this process, as this is a very busy time for them in carrying out their duties of securing the buildings.

Emergency contact

If you are working late at night in areas of the University, other than the library, you must inform reception on 3200. If you are unfortunate enough to be locked in, please phone the keyholder on:

  • 07703 207227
  • 07889 487336
  • 07801 469744.

You should be aware there could be a delay in the duty facilities assistant responding to a person trapped in the building, so please be patient.

To report or enquire about any lost property, please email reception at reception@solent.ac.uk with the subject 'Lost Property Enquiry'.

Car parking

Parking space is not guaranteed but is available on campus. The University operates a pay to park system outside of core hours available to all non-permit holders. The current arrangements are:

Week days

  • Before 8.30am: No charge
  • 8.30am-2pm: Pay to park unavailable
  • 2-5pm: £1 per hour
  • 5pm-midnight: £2

Weekends

  • Up to 2 hours: £2
  • All day parking: £5 (6am to midnight)
  • After 5pm: £2

The University reserves the right to amend these arrangements and will give reasonable notice.

Cashless payment can be made by the app, online, by telephone or text. More information can be found on the RingGo website.

Hours of operation and tariffs may vary throughout the Christmas period. Alternative signage will be displayed to reflect these changes.

To ensure the free passage of emergency and other vehicles, cars are to be parked in authorised bays only. Bays reserved for the use of motorcycles, disabled drivers, minibuses and visiting service engineer’s vehicles must not be used for general parking. There are bays in convenient locations marked for the sole use of disabled drivers on both campuses.

If you're living in halls of residence, you can find out about parking in our accommodation section
