Moving out

When the time comes to move out of the residences, make sure you have all the information you need.

If you're getting ready to move out of your residence, you'll find all the information on what to do here.

If you do have any questions, contact the Residence Team by phone: 07778 345113 or email: reshub@solent.ac.uk, or ask as the Residence Hub at Kimber, if you live in David Moxon, Kimber, Chantry or Deanery, and they'll be able to help.

Leaving residences early

Withdrawing from your course

If you are suspending your studies or withdrawing from your course and leaving the University, you can be released from your contract with a four week notice period.

You will need to let us know in writing of your intention to leave the student residences and you can do this by emailing the Accommodation Team at accommodation@solent.ac.uk.

Your four-week notice period will be calculated from the date we receive the written notification.  You will need to have vacated your room and returned the key fob by end of your notice period.

Termination of contract

Only in exceptional circumstances will you be allowed to terminate your contract. Requests of this nature are considered on a case-by-case basis and you will need to provide supporting evidence.

To request a release from your accommodation, please email to accommodation@solent.ac.uk.

Moving out into the private sector

If you decide partway through your contract that you want to move out into the private sector, or back home, but still carry on as a University student, you need to be aware that you will still be liable for your accommodation fees unless we can sell your room.

You can request to go on the resell list by notifying the Accommodation Team in writing and we will endeavour to match your room to any student who wishes to move into the student residences. There is no guarantee we will be able to resell your room and we cannot predict what timescale it will take to find someone.

Refunds

We aim to process any refund as soon as possible after the end of the notice period. The refund will be issued in the same way it was paid to us and that's usually either by credit/debit card or direct debit.

Moving rooms

If there is a problem with your room, speak to the Residence Team first to see if we can resolve the issue. Contact them by email at: reshub@solent.ac.uk.

If you still want to move rooms, you need to contact the Accommodation Team by email: accommodation@solent.ac.uk. The Accommodation Team will look for room availability and discuss the options with you. They will also liaise with the Residence Team to arrange a room viewing, ensure the new room is clean, and select a suitable move date.  A change of room will only be offered if you are up to date with your accommodation fees.

If you are changing types of room there may be an increase or decrease in your accommodation fees. You need to accept a new room agreement before you can move in. Once you have moved all your belongings, remember to hand in your old room fob and postbox key at the Residence Hub. You will be emailed a new room inventory for your new room.

Charges for damages

Please leave your room how you found it - clean, tidy, and with all furniture in its original position. Dispose of all rubbish in the external site bins.
