The University is keen ensure students and staff can travel to campus as easily, safely and sustainably as possible. If you’re looking for cycling and walking routes and initiatives, bus, train or ferry timetables, and help planning your journey, visit the MyJourney website, which is a one stop destination for travel information and advice for Southampton and Hampshire.
There are a number of facilities available for cycling to campus, as well as some great initiatives to get you up and running.
Cycle storage and changing facilities
Cycle storage and changing facilities can be found on our campus map. There are over 300 cycle spaces across EPT campus and a secure cycle store* is located adjacent to the Sir Christopher Cockerell (CC) building and accessed via the Salto card reader system. Card access can be requested via the Estates and Facilities helpdesk in CC003 or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
* Please note, although these cycle storage areas are regularly patrolled, it is highly recommended that bikes are locked using a high-quality D-lock (Sold Secure Silver or Gold rated). Discounted Kryptonite and Abus D-locks can be purchased through the University’s Bike Doctor service.
A bike maintenance station and bike pump are located at the front of Mountbatten Library and in between CC and Herbert Collins building.
Facilities within Solent Sports Complex (SB)
On Level 0, there is a two-tier bike rack, lockers (for wet clothes storage) and a bike maintenance area, with access via the underground car park at the rear of the building. The cycle store requires campus card access which can be requested via the Estates and Facilities helpdesk. Shower facilities and changing rooms are available within the building and are accessible to all current staff and students.
Changing and shower facilities within the old Solent Sports Hall (above The Dock)
Changing, locker and shower facilities are also accessible to staff and students just outside sports hall 3, which is located above the Dock restaurant on floor one of the Andrews’ building.
Pure Electric cycle discount
Pure Electric on Brunswick Place (formerly Cycle Republic) are offering 50% off their bronze, silver and gold services for Solent students and staff with a free health check and e-bike diagnostic included. This offer applies to ALL bikes, not just e-bikes. As the University's monthly Bike Doctor on campus is currently postponed, this is a useful alternative.
The student offer is available initially until 10 October 2020, but may be extended depending on uptake.
To help keep your bike in good condition, visit one of the FREE Bike Doctor sessions running across the city for a free safety check, tune up and minor repairs. You can find your nearest session on the My Journey Southampton website. All sessions adhere to social distancing guidelines.
The University’s own Bike Doctor service, in partnership with The Hub Cycleworks, is currently postponed but usually takes place on the concourse of Michael Andrews Building (at East Park Terrace) on the first Tuesday of the month from 10am to 3pm. The Bike Doctor carries out free bike services and minor repairs on a first come first served basis. Labour is free of charge and you just pay for any parts that may be required.
